The effect of KamiAntaeum and Tacksatang on edema owing to preganacy

Abstract
The present study was carried out to study the effect of KamiAntaeum and Taeksatang on edema owing to pregnancy.
First, in order to investigate supportive effect of gestation, number of implantation and survival rate of fetus were measured in pregnant rats which was administered saline (bellow control), Kamiantaeum (bell sample A), Taekesatang (bellow sample B) after PGF_(2¥á) injection, respectirely.
Second, in order to investigate effect on ovarian function and diuresis, respectively serum 17¥â-estradiol level, serum progesterone level, serum LH level, serum FSH level, urinary potassium level, urinary sodium level were measured in nonpregnant rats which were administered saline,sample A and sample B after PGF_(2¥á) injection.
The results obtained were summarized as follows ;
1. Both number of implantation and survival rate of fetus were slightly increased in sample A and B- treated group after PGF_(2¥á) injection compared with those of control gruup.
2. Serum level of 17¥â- estradiol was significantly increased in sample A and B-treated group compared with that of control group at 8 days after PGF_(2¥á) injection.
3. Serum level of progesterone was significantly increased in sample A-treated group, and it showed a tendency to increase in sample B-treated group compared with that of control group at 8 days after PGF_(2¥á) injection.
4. Serum level of luteinizing hormone was significantly increased in sample A-treated group, and it showed a tendency to increase in sample B-treated group compared with that of control group at 8 days after PGF_(2¥á) injection.
5. Serum level of follicle stimulating hormone was significantly increased in sample A-treated group, and it showed a tendency to increase in sample B-treated group at 6, 8 days after PGF_(2¥á) injection, respectively.
Fuethermore, there was significant difference between sample A and B-treated group.
6. Urinary potassium level showed tendency to increase in sample A and B-treated group for 24 hours.
7. Urinary sodium level was significantly increased in sample A-treated group, and it showed a tendency to increase in sample B-treated group compared with that of control group for 24 hours.
There results suggest sample A and B are effective for edema owing to pregnancy, associated with supportive effect of pregnancy, effect of female sex hormone, effect of gonadotropic hormone(LH, FSH), effect of diuresis, and especially sample A has more effect than sample B.
